10 interesting facts about Austria

Avui vull anomenar algunes curiositats d'Àustria:

1- A Àustria hi ha un poble que es diu Fucking. Sí, ho heu llegit bé. Els seus orígens es remunten al 1070, i actualment hi viuen unes 100 persones. Com és d'imaginar, els turistes es fan tota mena de fotos amb el cartell d'entrada al poble. Corre la veu que l'ajuntament l'ha hagut de canviar per un altre de material més resistent.

2- Àustria és el país amb més Premis Nobel per càpita després de Luxemburg. Apunt: a Àustria hi ha una mitjana d'un professor per cada 11 alumnes. (Més o menys igual que un altre país que jo conec)

3- Es veu que, en aquest país, els números parells fan venir mala sort. Si has de regalar flors a algú, que siguin senars. 

4- Alguns famosos austríacs: Felix Baumgartner, Sigmund Freud, Gustav Klimt. Adolf Hitler, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Niki Lauda.

5- El Ministre d'Exteriors d'Àustria té ni més ni menys que 27 anys. Pertany al partit conservador i, per cert, no ha acabat la carrera de Dret. 

6- La majoria d'edat és de 16 anys. Amb 16 anys es pot votar i comprar tabac. Amb 15 anys un ja es pot incorporar al món laboral. 

7- Les cascades més altes d'Europa són a Krimml, a Àustria. Són espectaculars! Podeu llegir l'entrada al blog on parlo d'elles. 

8- És el país del món amb la taxa més gran de població amb sobrepès. En canvi, té una de les taxes més baixes de població obesa. 

9- A tot arreu hi ha saunes mixtes i nudistes. Per exemple: el gimnàs on jo anava a fer aeròbics fan sauna cada dia de la setmana, però només un dia és separada homes-dones. Els altres dies és mixta. Això a mi em segueix xocant bastant :-O

10- Àustria pot ser un país molt modern en certes coses, però amb el tema del tabac està uns quants anys per darrere de molts països europeus. Aquí es pot fumar a la majoria de bars, restaurants i discoteques. Sí, podríem dir que ho porto fatal.

Today I want to write about some curiosities about Austria I have been gathering: 

 

1- In Austria there is a village called Fucking. Yes, you have read it right. Its origins date from 1070, and there currently live about 100 people. As it's easy to imagine, tourists go there and take all kind of pictures with the sign at the beginning of the village. There's a rumor going around that the City Hall had to change this sign for another one made by a more resistant material.

2- Austria is the country with more Nobel Awards per capita after Luxembourg. Note: in Austria there is an average of one teacher for each 11 pupils (More or less the same as in another country I know - ironic mode).

3- Apparently, in Austria the even numbers give bad luck. If you ever want to give flowers to somebody, you better check the number is odd.

4- Some famous Austrians: Felix Baumgartner, Sigmund Freud, Gustav Klimt. Adolf Hitler, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Niki Lauda. 

5- The Austrian Foreign Minister is no more and no less than 27 years old. He belongs to the conservative party and, by the way, he hasn't finished the Bachelor of Law. 

6- The age majority is 16 years old. Being 16 years old you can vote and buy tobacco. Being 15 years old you can already join the labor market.

7- The record for Europe's highest waterfall goes to Austria's Krimml Falls. They are gorgeous! You can check my post about these waterfalls :-)

8- It's the world's country with the highest rate of overweighted population. However, it has one of the lowest rate of obese people. 

9- There are mixed, nude saunas everywhere. For instance: in the gym I used to do aerobics there is sauna everyday, but only one day of the week it's separate men - women. All the other days it's mixed. This is something that stills surprises me...

10- Austria is such a modern country in so many ways, but regarding smoking we can't say the same. It has been really slow to take up any kind of smoking laws. Here it's allowed to smoke in most restaurants, pubs and discos. Yes, I just can't stand it :-(
